I got a second chance

Last year, nearly 7,000 stray and unwanted animals were sheltered and cared for at the Humane Society of the Black Hills. Half were adopted.

Will you help me?

Each animal that is adopted from the Humane Society of the Black Hills leaves the facility already spayed/neutered, with at least one set of vaccinations, has a nationally registered microchip, and comes with a certificate for a free veterinary exam.

I'll be a good dog

Shelter animals are not "bad" pets. Nearly all shelter animals were brought to us for reasons that did not include the animal's behavior. Often, people simply don't take into consideration the level of responsibility involved with a new pet!

Your Stories

"I adopted "Kid" from the Humane Society of the Black Hills. He is a four year old domestic shorthair. He came to HSBH when he was approximatley 5 weeks old, and as the only survivor of his litter. Someone had thrown them out of a car while they were driving. He had some head trauma; when he would eat, his tongue would flap out the side of his mouth, and his coordination was not that great.
