Last year, nearly 7,000 stray and unwanted animals were sheltered and cared for at the Humane Society of the Black Hills. Half were adopted.

Will you help me?

Each animal that is adopted from the Humane Society of the Black Hills leaves the facility already spayed/neutered, with at least one set of vaccinations, has a nationally registered microchip, and comes with a certificate for a free veterinary exam.

I'll be a good dog

Shelter animals are not "bad" pets. Nearly all shelter animals were brought to us for reasons that did not include the animal's behavior. Often, people simply don't take into consideration the level of responsibility involved with a new pet!

"My daughter and I went to the Humane Society looking for an adult cat in November 2004. We didn't see any that caught our eye so with her urging we looked at the dogs. The looking came to an abrupt halt as soon as she saw "Joe". This wolf/Sheppard mix was about 8 months old, huge, and had a long knotted gray coat.
