Last year, nearly 7,000 stray and unwanted animals were sheltered and cared for at the Humane Society of the Black Hills. Half were adopted.
Will you help me?
Each animal that is adopted from the Humane Society of the Black Hills leaves the facility already spayed/neutered, with at least one set of vaccinations, has a nationally registered microchip, and comes with a certificate for a free veterinary exam.
I'll be a good dog
Shelter animals are not "bad" pets. Nearly all shelter animals were brought to us for reasons that did not include the animal's behavior. Often, people simply don't take into consideration the level of responsibility involved with a new pet!

"My pet's story: My husband and I had just gotten married and were looking for a dog. We wanted something small, any breed, as long as it was friendly. I went to the BH Humane Society, and saw a cage with a name tag for "Sam", but couldn't see Sam at first, because he was curled up at the front of the cage. He had a hold tag on him, because someone else was adopting him, so I didn't look too hard at Sam.
