Licensing your pet is the law:

Rapid City Ordinance 6.12.010 - Licensing.
Pennington County Ordinance 2A Article V - Licensing

Failure to license or renew your pet’s license will result in a $105.00 citation



Requirements:

All animals 6 months of age residing in Rapid City or Pennington County are required to have a current Rabies vaccination and a city or county license.

Licenses are issued by the Humane Society of the Black Hills.

Yearly Fees
Intact Dog - $16.00
Intact Cat - $10.00
Sterile Dog - $8.00
Sterile Cat - $5.00
Replacement Tag - $1.00

Your Stories

"My pet's story: My husband and I had just gotten married and were looking for a dog. We wanted something small, any breed, as long as it was friendly. I went to the BH Humane Society, and saw a cage with a name tag for "Sam", but couldn't see Sam at first, because he was curled up at the front of the cage. He had a hold tag on him, because someone else was adopting him, so I didn't look too hard at Sam.
