I got a second chance

Last year, nearly 7,000 stray and unwanted animals were sheltered and cared for at the Humane Society of the Black Hills. Half were adopted.

Will you help me?

Each animal that is adopted from the Humane Society of the Black Hills leaves the facility already spayed/neutered, with at least one set of vaccinations, has a nationally registered microchip, and comes with a certificate for a free veterinary exam.

I'll be a good dog

Shelter animals are not "bad" pets. Nearly all shelter animals were brought to us for reasons that did not include the animal's behavior. Often, people simply don't take into consideration the level of responsibility involved with a new pet!

"Miri was relinquished by her owner and went through three failed adoptions before she found me. I was immediately drawn to Miri. After I walked by the dogs at the shelter, I looked back, and she lunged her paw under her cage. After exactly 6 months at the shelter, Miri became my youngest pup. Miri was ill with Giardia and an ear infection.
